Empowering Colombian Coastal Communities Through NAUI Dive Training
NAUI Dive Training and Instructor Development Programs in Colombia!
A new chapter in scuba diving education has begun in Punta Ardita, ChocĆ³ ā Colombia. Led by NAUI Course Director John Parra (#11063), the recently launched Instructor Development Program (IDP) is bringing high-quality diving instruction to local professionals and preparing them to serve a greater purpose.
These instructors are progressing steadily and are currently completing the final E-learning component required to achieve full NAUI Instructor certification.
Collaboration with FundaciĆ³n Malpelo
This program is a joint initiative with Sandra Bessudo, NAUI Instructor and internationally renowned marine biologist. Bessudo, the Director of FundaciĆ³n Malpelo, has partnered with Parra to create a project that uses scuba diving as a tool for education, conservation, and empowerment.
Together, they are laying the groundwork for a transformative diving and conservation program targeting underserved youth in Punta Ardita, a biodiverse coastal region in western Colombia.
Project Goals: Diving into Opportunity
The project will support 14 students from the local community, taking them from Open Water to Rescue Diver certifications, along with first aid training.Ā
