Safety and Response in Aquatic Emergencies

The CEU Universidad San Pablo in Madrid, Spain, is proud to announce a specialized course titled "Safety and Response in Aquatic Emergencies," scheduled for June 8, 2024. This course is an integral part of the Master's Degree in Emergency Nursing and Medical Transportation, designed to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge required to handle aquatic emergencies effectively.

 

Course Overview

The "Safety and Response in Aquatic Emergencies" course aims to provide comprehensive training on the prevention, recognition, and management of aquatic emergencies. The course will cover a range of topics, including water safety, rescue techniques, and emergency response protocols. It is tailored to meet the needs of emergency nursing professionals and medical transportation specialists, ensuring they are well-prepared to respond to incidents in aquatic environments.

 

Key Collaborators

The course will be conducted in collaboration with several esteemed organizations known for their expertise in aquatic safety and rescue operations:

NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors): NAUI is a globally recognized organization dedicated to promoting safe diving practices through education and training. NAUI will lead the rescue diving presentations and practical sessions, providing students with hands-on experience in underwater rescue techniques.

PARAMAX Dive and Rescue School: As a NAUI affiliate, PARAMAX specializes in dive and rescue training. Their instructors will bring a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to the course, ensuring that students receive high-quality training in rescue diving.

University Diving Club OCEANIDES: Another NAUI affiliate, OCEANIDES, will contribute to the practical training sessions. The club's experienced divers will assist in demonstrating and supervising rescue techniques, enhancing the learning experience for all participants.

SLA Salvamento: SLA Salvamento is a key collaborator in this event, bringing their extensive experience in surf lifesaving and aquatic rescue. Their involvement will provide students with valuable insights into surf rescue techniques and emergency response in coastal environments. Among other things, SLA Salvamento will be in charge of PWC rescue drills and swift-water training with a raft.

DAN (Divers Alert Network) Europe Education: DAN Europe is renowned for its contributions to diving safety and medical research. Their involvement in the course will provide students with valuable insights into the medical aspects of diving emergencies, including first aid and emergency response procedures.

 

Course Content

The course will include both theoretical and practical components, covering the following key areas:

  • Water Safety Awareness: Understanding the risks associated with aquatic environments and the importance of preventive measures.
  • Rescue Techniques: Training in various rescue methods, including surface and underwater rescues, and the use of rescue equipment.
  • Emergency Response Protocols: Developing skills to manage and respond to aquatic emergencies, including CPR, first aid, and the use of emergency medical equipment.
  • Practical Sessions: Hands-on training in rescue diving, supervised by experienced instructors from NAUI, PARAMAX, OCEANIDES, and SLA Salvamento.
