NAUI Green Diver Initiative Launches the Dive4Change Grant Program

Tampa, Fla. (October 25, 2016) – The National Association of Underwater Instructors Green Diver Initiative (GDI) is proud to announce the launch of the Dive4Change Grant Program. This new resource will further empower NAUI leaders and others to continue to dive in and discover, preserve and restore our waterways.

Most granting agencies only allow non-profit organizations to apply for individual project funding. By helping awardees secure the resources necessary for success, the NAUI GDI Dive4Change Grant Program helps to fill the void associated with limited funding.

“Divers have an opportunity during every dive to make a positive impact on our waterways. Through the Dive4Change Grant Program, divers will receive resources to develop innovative and impact-driven projects…diving not just for recreation, but diving with a purpose,” said GDI Manager Sam Richardson.

The Dive4Change Grant Program will fund projects related to:

  • Restoring coral reef communities.
  • Reducing the number of invasive species — like lionfish — through targeted environmental-friendly methods.
  • Removing harmful marine debris from aquatic environments.
  • Tracking and surveying marine life communities, such as sea turtles, manatees, sharks and other threatened species.
  • Educating the public about environmental topics through ecotourism.
  • Researching and collecting data to better understand aquatic environments.
  • Documenting and promoting the conservation of the aquatic world through photography and videography.

“The NAUI Green Diver Initiative strives to empower divers to continue to dive-in and explore, preserve and restore our waterways,” Said Richardson. “Unfortunately, funding for individually inspired projects can be limited due to the fact that most granting agencies only allow non-profit organizations to apply. This leaves divers, eager to utilize their skills for the betterment of our environment, with few options for support.”

Make a difference and help your fellow NAUI leaders save our oceans, lakes and streams. Support for the grant program is provided by the generosity of individual donors, NAUI Affiliates and corporate partners. The grant program is open to NAUI members and affiliate partners, undergraduate and graduate level students in the field of marine science, certified divers, and/or 501 (c) (3) organizations. The Green Diver committee will select the most qualifying organization. Projects can be in the U.S. or International. Applicants can apply for up to $1,000 per request for each granting cycle. There are no application deadlines; grants are based on an “as funds are available” basis.
