Jim Gunderson joins NAUI Services Group as Training Manager

Tampa, Fla. (June 13, 2016) – The National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI Worldwide), a leader in recreational scuba diver training and certification, is pleased to welcome the new Training Manager for NAUI Service Group.


NAUI continues to expand its operations with the selection of Jim Gunderson, NAUI #53243, to fill its newly created Training Manager position at NAUI Service Group in Tampa, Florida. In this position, Gunderson will be responsible for training support, including the writing and development of new and revised training materials for NAUI members and affiliates.  


“I’m excited about the opportunity to help NAUI continue its role as dive education and training leaders,” said Gunderson.  


Gunderson is a native of Casper, Wyoming, and currently resides in Kingston, Washington. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming and a Bachelor of Arts in marine science from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He is the recipient of the the PACON International Award for Integration of Technology into Marine Science Research. He is also a founding member of the Wyoming Outdoor Program at the University of Wyoming and member of the National Ski Patrol.


Gunderson has been an avid diver since 1986, where he was certified in the cold lakes of Wyoming. With more than 4,000 recreational and scientific dives in places such as the high altitude lakes of Wyoming and Montana, the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest, Gunderson brings a wide range of experience and skill to the position. He has worked in dive retail and instruction with NAUI Platinum Affiliates, Lighthouse Diving Center, in Lynnwood, Washington, and currently manages Hula Kai Adventures, in Kingston, Washington.

“The freedom and flexibility NAUI provides its educators has always been a hallmark of its training philosophy,” added Gunderson.  “My focus will be on providing our members with the training support materials that are needed to ensure effective learning in today’s evolving educational environment."
