Instructor Training Course

About The Event


The NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is designed to train and qualify NAUI Instructor member applicants. During the course, candidate instructors learn effective methods to teach skin and scuba diving in compliance with NAUI diving course standards. Taking this course does not guarantee you will become a certified instructor.

Phase One:
Instructor Training Program (ITP), contains all developmental training.

Phase Two:
Instructor Qualification Program (IQP). This is the evaluation phase

PREREQUISITES: All items must be completed prior to attendance.

• Minimum age is 18 years of age prior to the start of training.
• Current certification as a NAUI Assistant Instructor or NAUI Divemaster or other agency leaders
• Current certification in NAUI First Aid for Dive Professionals or equivalent.
• Current certification in NAUI Oxygen Provider or equivalent.
• Certified as a Nitrox Diver
• A minimum of 100 logged open water scuba dives.
• Minimum of 1 Year of diving experience.

Equipment:

• Candidates shall furnish and be responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment. The instructor shall initially assist candidates in checking all their gear to ensure it is adequate and in proper working order.

Medical Approval:

• Verification of good physical condition as documented by a medical examination and unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months. In no event will medical approval be accepted wherein the physician signing the certificate is the student.

Confined Water: A Minimum of Eight Graded Confined Water Teaching Presentation

Open Water: A Minimum of Ten Graded Training Presentations Over a Minimum
• Open Water Dive Briefings

• In-Water Teaching Presentations, One of Which Shall Be Related to Advanced, Master or Specialty Dive Activity

Final Instructor Knowledge Exam
250-question exam consisting of 10 separate sections. Each section of the exam must be passed with a minimum score of 80%. These examinations are administered closed book (except for the Standards and Policies/Risk Management exam and use of NAUI dive tables)

Certification Results
• NAUI Instructors have the knowledge, skills, fitness and proper attitude to do so.
• NAUI Instructor membership in any status provided for in the bylaws of the association.
• NAUI Instructor may independently teach NAUI sanctioned courses.
• NAUI Instructor may independently conduct NAUI recognition and experience programs.
• NAUI Instructor who are authorized by NAUI Training Department, can teach the NAUI First Aid – Powered by DAN provider courses.

Minimums for The Instructor Training Course (ITC):
2 Student Minimum For The ITC.
31 Days Prior To ITC Start Date If Student Minimum Is Not Met, Deposit Will Be Fully Refunded.
30 Days Prior To Course Commencement (Granted That The Minimum Students Requirement Is Reached) Remaining Balance For Course Is Due. Student Will Receive eLearning Access Code Once Remaining Balance Is Paid In Full, Once eLearning Code Is Activated, NO Refunds Will Be Issued.

Additional Fees:
• Instructor Insurance (DAN) - $681 / Annually (DAN Directly)
• NAUI Membership 2020 - $185 / Annually + One Time Initial Fee $100 (NAUI Directly)
• Instructor Guide Licenses (Optional) - $150 One Time Fee (NAUI Directly)
